Here at The Tora no Tsume we embrace all martial arts. Every style that has ever emerged is a wealth of knowledge, a history, a culture, and a useful tool. Our philosophy here is "No art is grater than another. Fear the man, not the art," and we tray to live by that. Our founder's core style, and our main art is Aikijujutsu. Along with that, we offer Ryu no Tate jutsu, (karate), Shin Shi Ryu (Iaijutsu), and Toyama ryu, (iaijutsu). These are our core four, our main lines, each one con be a lifetime of study. To add to those we also practice fighting arts, boxing, Muay Thai, and wrestling.

A Bit on Each Style

Aikijujutsu

This is a form of empty hand combat that uses and assortment of striking techniques, joint locks, throws, and holds to subdue an opponent. Though some of the techniques can be applied toward sport, that is not the main focus.

Ryu no Tate jutsu

This is a style of empty hand self defense that specializes in a vast amount of striking techniques effective at multiple ranges. Though it is mainly an empty handed style, training in kobudo weapons enhances the dexterity and strengthens the technique.

Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu

Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu is a 400 year old Japanese sword art, founded by Sekiguchi Yagouemon Ujinari of the Imagawa clan. Teachings include the use of a katana, wakazashi, and tanto. All techniques are taught through the traditional means of kata, kumitachi, and tameshigiri. Shin Shin Ryu classes are taught through the Shinmeikan dojo under Welborn Sensei as part of the U.S. Shin Shin Ryu Renmai, under Renmai Cho Daniel Keupp, a direct student of the 11th Soke of Shin Shin Ryu, Yamada Yoshitaka.

Toyama Ryu

This is a more contemporary style of Japanese sword that developed around WWII. This style's main focus is becoming a very strong cutter. The art is simple and straight-forward. One of it's main practices is tameshigiri, where a straw mat is rolled into a tight bundle, soaked in water, and has various cutting techniques practiced on it with a live cutting blade.
